The poet-singer, songwriter, and Breton musician Melaine Favennec has passed away, leaving Brittany orphaned of one of its most unique voices.

Born in Quimperlé in 1950, Melaine Favennec made his mark on the Breton music scene as early as the 1970s, notably as a member of the group Diaouled ar Menez before participating in the creation of the cooperative Névénoé. He then pursued a long personal career, blending song, traditional music, and creations for theater and cinema.

Tradition, like Brittany, is first passed on by people who dream. -Melaine Favennec

A free artist deeply attached to Brittany, he released several albums that became references and continued to perform on stage, notably with the trio EDF (Patrick Ewen, Gérard Delahaye, and Mélaine Favennec). His work, enriched with poetry, humanism, and Celtic influences, has inspired several generations of Breton musicians.

“If we talk about poetry, we find ourselves in front of a machine for creating dreams, contemplation, wonder, and disturbance.” — Melaine Favennec

The entire editorial team of Agence Bretagne Presse extends its sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all those who accompanied him throughout his career.
