Book on the evolution of the morphology and syntax of Breton, from Old Breton to Middle Breton to Modern Breton.

After the publication of "Prefixes and suffixes, Breton in fine form!", "Bezañ et bout, Breton on the right track!", "Phrases and syntax, I love Breton to the max!", here is the fourth installment of this collection: "Centuries and words, Breton as it should be!".

You will find in this book two main parts:

  • the first part focuses on the evolution of words and spelling, providing phonological explanations for this evolution whenever possible;
  • the second part examines the evolution of sentences, supported by numerous examples.

To cover 1500 years of Breton history may seem ambitious. However, the mission remains reasonable as long as the goal is to illustrate the major stages of the evolution of Breton: its vocabulary, syntax, and spelling. It is therefore an invitation to traverse the centuries from Old Breton to Middle Breton to Modern Breton.

We primarily rely on the works of linguists Emile Ernault, Roparz Hemon, Léon Fleuriot, Gwénolé Le Menn, Lukian Kergoat, Albert Deshayes, and Francis Favereau.

At the end of the book, we asked contemporary linguists, Francis Favereau, Lukian Kergoat, Laorañs Motrot, for their views on the evolution of Breton, not forgetting, of course, to ask them about its transmission to future generations.

The book will be available at the end of the month on the online sales site Klask.com or in certain bookstores. It is available now by order form.
