Since the beginning of August, hostile inscriptions against tourists discovered in several municipalities of southern Finistère have been widely reported in the national media. Visitors' cars have notably been vandalized in Plobannalec-Lesconil, while inscriptions have been found in Penmarc'h and Douarnenez.

One element, however, helps to better understand the political orientation of at least part of these actions. In Penmarc'h, the slogan "Tourists go home" was accompanied, just below, by "Refugees welcome": "Tourists out, refugees welcome." This tag was ignored by media outlets like TF1.

In Douarnenez, another inscription also called for actions against prisons, administrative detention centers (CRA), and Airbnb. These slogans, characteristic of far-left activist circles, thus give the anti-tourist tags a political dimension that goes beyond the simple issue of housing. Even though they do not allow, in the absence of identified authors, to attribute these inscriptions to a particular political organization, the welcome of refugees and the strengthening of the right to asylum are explicitly among the orientations defended by La France insoumise.

The tensions related to tourism and especially housing are very real in part of the Breton coastline: the increase in second homes, seasonal rentals, and rising real estate prices have fueled the debate for several years, but some of the displayed tags indicate rather an attempt at political appropriation.
