A new case seems to suggest the destruction of standing stones in Tregastel. Koun Breizh is filing a complaint today so that a criminal investigation can clarify the situation. Our association is regularly alerted to similar incidents that occurred several years ago, which does not allow for effective action. Our megalithic heritage is subject to a worrying disregard.

The heritage association Koun Breizh has filed a complaint today with the Public Prosecutor at the Judicial Court of Saint-Brieuc for the destruction of archaeological remains following reports by the news outlet actu.fr regarding the destruction of menhirs, accompanied by a photograph of a pile of monoliths strongly resembling those unearthed in Carnac during the Montauban road case.

According to information provided by the press, the construction site was halted by the town hall, and the DRAC of Brittany, which was notified, reported the discovery of new monoliths in this historically significant location, as it adjoins the famous covered alley of Kerguntuil.

As a recognized association of general interest, Koun Breizh is authorized by its statutes to defend Breton historical and cultural heritage and to undertake any legal action in this regard, if necessary. Our association was responsible for initiating a criminal procedure concerning the events in Carnac, a case currently under investigation by the BR of Lorient and still ongoing to this day.

This new troubling case has raised concerns among the residents of Tregastel and deserves to be clarified through a criminal investigation. At this stage, while it is difficult to conclude on the characterization of the offense of destruction of archaeological remains, some recent cases have led us to exercise the utmost vigilance.

This criminal complaint is not intended to harm anyone but aims to shed light on this matter.

For many years, we have noted a certain disregard for our megalithic heritage, the richest in Europe, with the cradle of Western megalithic civilization located in Brittany, according to the oldest datings dating back nearly 8,000 years near Carnac.

The presence of megaliths everywhere is unsettling, and cases of destruction are not rare.

We are convinced that our legal actions are likely to deter others who might be tempted to dispose of their menhirs.

We will keep you informed of the progress of this complaint.

For the association Koun Breizh
